Cross Training Under the Dome is a model for Sunday school based on the Workshop Rotation Model. It is an innovative, multi-media way of teaching that meets children where they are - both spiritually and culturally. The beauty of the workshop rotation model is that our church can tailor the workshops and the curriculum to specifically meet our congregation’s needs.
We have taken the multi-dimensional approach of standard curriculum and expanded that concept into workshops that the children will rotate through during a four or five week unit. This will allow the students to experience the DEPTH of the Bible stories and the core values and Bible truths taught through each one.
The workshops are intentionally designed to appeal to our elementary children, grades 1 through 5. Traditional classrooms have been redesigned into creative, child-friendly, themed workshops for teaching the Bible in ways children respond best - movement, visual stimulation, tastes, games, drama, puppetry, storytelling, art, and music...just to name a few.
Workshop leaders stay in their workshop, presenting their lesson, with age appropriate modifications, to a new group of kids each week. Leaders teach in their area of giftedness, therefore transferring their enthusiasm and excitement onto their students. Each group of children have a small group guide, called a shepherd, who provides consistency and continuity to this model by accompanying his/her class of children the entire year as it rotates through the various workshops.
The end result will be a generation of young people who will know and stand on the promises of God throughout their lives.
What are the benefits of the Workshop Rotation Model?
- The different workshops accommodate different types of learners - auditory learners, visual learners, sensory learners, and kinetic learners.
- Bible stories and principles are repeatedly experienced, not just heard, in this multi-media approach.
- Child-friendly classrooms and relevant Biblical teaching attract children to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
- Workshop leaders specialize in their areas of interest and giftedness.
- Workshop leaders can make a smaller time commitment (four to five weeks) and then return to their own adult class.
