“WHEN THE EARTH ROCKS, UMCOR ROLLS”… You may not realize that when disasters hit in the U.S. and Territories, very often the first on the scene are the Methodists…in the form of United Methodist Committee on Relief. Local churches can become an arm of UMCOR thru certification by UMCOR trainers.
NOW’S YOUR CHANCE – Mark your calendar for Friday, January 12 (6:00 to 9:00 p.m.) and Saturday, January 13 (TBA). Byron and Janice Mann serve as the Arkansas Conference Coordinators for disaster relief training. The Mann’s will be at Central to teach classes enabling CUMC to be a Disaster Relief Church with members that are certified. The training will be open conference-wide as we welcome United Methodists from all over our state to this event.
Why do we want to be certified? First of all, we want to be ready and prepared when disaster strikes. Second of all, teams do not have access to disaster situations without certified members. WE WANNA BE READY!
A winter/early spring trip is planned for the Houston area which was so badly damaged by Hurricane Harvey. On the form that has been sent for our CUMC team, the first question is: Is your team UMCOR certified? By February or March we WILL be! Won’t you join us and make a significant difference to the thousands of people affected by this year’s natural disasters.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY! The fee for registration is $30 and covers lunch, training materials, background check and badge.
Make checks payable to CUMC, and on the memo line write: DISASTER TRAINING.
